Current form
The ever-so-consistent BIG has been hovering around the Top-10 spot all year long. Even after one of their stars “XANTARES” leaving the team and “gade” replacing him, the results have still looked promising. BIG’s great preparation and solid team play make them always tough to play against.
Player to watch
The in-game leader and star of the team “tabseN” is what BIG is. He’s played in the team for almost 5 years with numerous different results. He’s taken steps back, allowing his teammates to shine and now he’s taking some space again and fragging out since that is what’s needed from him. Need a big play? TabseN will deliver.
What would winning take?
BIG is definitely coming in as one of the favorites of the tournament. Winning will take more from the other four players excluding tabseN. If BIG has enough time to prepare for their opponents, they can beat anyone.
It’s been wonderful to watch Sinners’ journey.
Exactly one year ago their HLTV Ranking was #159 but now the team has spiked to top 20. Sinners came to Elisa Invitational Fall 2021 Main Swiss as invites and Checzs need three match wins to get into Playoff stage starting on October 11th.
23-year-old Sebastian “beastik” Daňo has been IGL in Sinners for over one year. After discussing in-game roles in Sinners, beastik explains their gaming style in CS:GO.
- I would say that our gaming style is really aggressive: doing crazy pushes, going through smokes and making explosive plays. So we’re kind of like a Furia style, you know.
And magic is activated! It was Furia who won $50,000 in the last tournament becoming champions of Elisa Invitational Summer 2021. So of course the next question is about the expectations for the upcoming Elisa tournament.
- Our expectations are high. I know that there are really good teams in this tournament but we would like to reach at least top 3. We want to prove that our success has not came by random and that we’re a good team.
People don’t know much about Czech Republic’s CS:GO scene because it’s still fresh and growing. In the early days, players had a hard time to find motivation and outer support while dreaming about Tier 1 matches and getting enough serious practise for professional CS careers. When looking back, beastik finds those hard moments but still keeps his eyes on the prize and in the current meta. Now he can work on the team’s own problems.
- I won’t say issues but in Sinners small lacks of practise and professionalism have made us tilt during practises. With coach Tomáš “Tomkeejs” Tomka, our problems started to solve and communication evolved making the mood and synergy even better. And with Tomáš “oskar” Šťastný coming late of 2020, his experience helped me to think differently about the game and I improved a lot as a player.
Interesting detail is also brought up concerning the team’s performance on the server.
- I think that we need to watch more demos and analyze them. My IGL-leading style hasn’t been defined yet and I like to give room especially for Adam “NEOFRAG” Zouhar and Tomáš “oskar” Šťastný in the game. Micromanaging is very hard and I want my teammates to know what to do in any situation. So watching demos may help us with that one.
In the end, despite ruffer baby steps in CS:GO, beastik thanks his friends and family for supporting him all this time and acknowledges little changes that he needs to do for his CS:GO bucket list.
- My dream was to achieve HLTV #30 and now that I got it, I think that Major needs to be added for the next goal with Sinners. Wish me luck!

HAVU (invited)
HLTV Rank: #35
Player to watch: Sami “xseveN” Laasanen
The best all-Finnish team around had a weird Summer and they’d be probably the first to admit that. In June they benched their most recent player at the time, Jemi “jemi” Mäkinen, only for him to come back a couple of months later. Still, it’s good to remember that the team achieved a very high level earlier in the year, reaching a team ranking of 14 at their peak. Now they’re looking to replicate that.
Dignitas (invited)
HLTV Rank: #36
Player to watch: Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg
This Swedish team was built to bring back the legendary NIP line-up but now only two of those players remain – friberg and f0rest. DIG has still been able to find a high level of play especially as of late taking down solid teams like ENCE and FunPlus Phoenix.
The team is nicely rounded out with younger talent in HEAP and the lone-Norwegian, hallzerk. Dignitas is coming in as one of the favorites to go through to the playoffs.
Sinners (invited)
HLTV Rank: #19
Player to watch: Tomáš “oskar” Šťastný
The highest-ranked team of the Swiss stage is the Czech Republic squad of Sinners. A mere year ago they still were world-ranked 158. They were quick to improve though and especially the addition of the legendary 30-year old Czech awper, oskar, brought them to a new level. They’re looking to cause mayhem and anything short of a top-8 placement would be a disappointment.
SKADE (invited)
HLTV Rank: #22
Player to watch: Georgi “SHiPZ” Grigorov
We welcome back the juggernauts of Elisa Invitational tournaments. This Bulgarian squad won the Spring edition of the event and fell only in the final to FURIA in the Summer version. In other events, their results haven’t been quite as magnificent but the Elisa Invitational magic feels more real with every passing event.
Copenhagen Flames (invited)
HLTV Rank: #27
Player to watch: Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen
Copenhagen Flames are looking strong as are many of the teams at this stage. Especially roeJ’s opening kill success has brought the team to another level. He wins 56% of his entry duels – an impressive number for a non-awper.
DBL Poney (invited)
HLTV Rank: #30
Player to watch: Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro
DBL Poney isn’t only good for memes. Recently they announced their fifth, Pierre “Ex3rcice” Bulinge, who has some large shoes to fill replacing the legendary NBK-.
Galaxy Racer (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #53
Player to watch: Hugo “chawzyyy” Günther
Perfection was the name of the game for Galaxy Racer in the Regionals stage. They 2-0’ed SAW Youngsters, Apeks and Lyngby Vikings. The domination the Swedes handed over the Lyngby Vikings was impressive, a 16-6 on Inferno and a 16-4 on Mirage. The slick Regionals stage raises hopes that we’ll see Galaxy Racer reach the playoffs.
KOVA (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #107
Player to watch: Jussi “Airax” Airaksinen
KOVA’s run in the Regionals wasn’t simple but it worked. They played with EIGHT different players in total. Finally, the IGL himself got his way back onto the server after healing from an injury and he played lights out finishing with a 1.24 rating and beating the Young Ninjas unexpectedly. They aren’t expected to go through here but we’ll see if the Cinderella run continues.
X-kom AGO (invited)
HLTV Rank: #23
Player to watch: Michał “snatchie” Rudzki
Fiend (invited)
HLTV Rank: #32
Player to watch: Deyvid “h4rn” Benchev
Lyngby Vikings (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #39
Player to watch: Dion “FASRH” Derksen
Finest (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #84
Player to watch: Guy “anarkez” Trachtman
777 (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #54
Player to watch: Haris “H4RRE” Hadzic
Young Ninjas (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #43
Player to watch: Love “phzy” Smidebran
Apeks (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #55
Player to watch: Dennis “dennis” Edman
GORILLAZ (qualified)
HLTV Rank: #118
Player to watch: Jere “sergej” Salo

The Fall season kick-off
The regional Swiss Stage of the Elisa Invitational Fall 2021 is starting on Monday, the 16th of August. The Fall edition is packed with quality teams consisting of the Nordic qualifiers teams and the invited teams. In the Fall season, the teams will be competing for the coveted $100,000 prize pool where the winner will take home $50 000!
The Regional Swiss stage will run through September 9th with 8 of the 16 teams making it through the Main Swiss Stage. The competition will run weekly Monday to Thursday in classic Best-of-3 fashion.
Let’s take a closer look at the teams and their chances of moving forward in this competitive environment where nothing can be taken for granted.
“The should-be-sure-to-be-top-8”
Lyngby Vikings
Lyngby Viking is one of the highest ranked teams of this stage. They had a disappointing end to Elisa Invitational Summer 2021 going 0-3 in the group stage. This being said, the Vikings’ floor of performance is so high that they definitely should be in the top eight.
Apeks
Apeks got an interesting addition in June when AcilioN joined the team as their new in-game-leader. The Dane won the million dollar Flashpoint 1 tournament just over a year ago and is expected to bring that winning touch to the team.
777 Esports
The surprise of the last season is coming back. The team had clearly put in a lot of time into the game in the Summer Invitational which we also heard from their winners’ interviews from Haris “H4RR3” Hadzic. He has also been the shining light in “Triple 7” posting an impressive 1.15 rating. Will lightning strike twice in the same place though?
Finest
Finest is building something great, at least that’s what they’re hoping for. Most of the team has just come together all over Europe, Israel, Poland, Estonia and Bulgaria. This roster is one of the most exciting in this stage of the tournament. To mention one, the Isreali player Guy “anarkez” Trachtman has been hyped up for some time. We’ve heard other Israeli players talk about him as the next big thing. If Finest can find synergy, they’ll bulldoze their way to the top eight.
Young Ninjas
The Young Ninjas have deservedly gotten a lot of exposure during the year with a couple of their players, Erik “ztr” Gustafsson and Linus “LNZ” Holtäng, getting the chance to showcase their skill in the main roster of NIP., LNZ still playing in the world-class roster. This academy team has already reached rank #45 in the world and they are one of the more dangerous teams at this stage.
“The Dark Horses”
Galaxy Racer
This Swedish roster has sported some decent results lately. They’ve managed to win a respectable 58% of their matches over the past 3 months. Galaxy Racer has been consistent but their playoff hopes aren’t written in the stars.
GORILLAZ
If there’s one thing you can say about GORILLAZ it’s that you can’t call them boring. This team that has yet to reveal their teased organization has showcased disappointing results in their first few months. In Elisa Invitational Summer 2021 they didn’t manage to qualify from the Regional stage onto the Main Swiss stage. They have experienced stars in the team but can they finally start to make it work?
AaB
AaB entered the summer break with a really strong performance in the Danish POWER Ligaen Season 17 where they topped the tournament beating Tricked and MASONIC. The trajectory is going upwards – maybe even to the top eight?
Tricked
Like their countrymen from Lyngby Vikings, Tricked had a disappointing ending to the Summer season going 0-3, losing to Young Ninjas, AGF and DBL Poney. They also lost their star awper Philip “Lucky” Ewald to Astralis. A top eight spot doesn’t seem self-evident anymore.
“The Underdogs”
Dusty
A rare sighting in the CS:GO scene can be found here, and Icelandinc team. DUSTY is a very young squad with an average age of 20.7.
KOVA
This Finnish squad has seemingly plateaued in the world rankings and they’re looking to make a change to that. Adding a new IGL in Jussi “Airax” Airaksinen hasn’t been a miracle cure but the team’s highs have always been impressive. It’s just a matter of finding a way to reach that high more consistently.
SAW Youngsters
The Portugese organization’s academy team is coming into the tournament as one of the team’s we know the least about. The Academy team was announced just August 6th – how much time will they have had to prepage is the biggest question.
hREDS
Making it through the closed qualifier looked at times easy for hREDS. Since adding the awper Topi “LYNXi” Kauppi, the team’s level of performance has risen. The roles make sense but still these Finns are in tough company. Making it to the playoffs would be a surprise.
X-Gamer
Coming in hot from the Swedish closed qualifiers is X-Gamer. The line-up has a wide distribution of ages ranging from 16 to 25. It will be hard to see them beating some of the bigger names in this stage.
Oilers Esports
Oilers Esports made it through the Norweigan qualifier narrowly beating Apeks Rebels 16-14 in the decider map of the Final. Everything will have to go perfectly for the Oilers to reach the next stage of the tournament.
MASONIC
Coming in as the fourth Danish team, MASONIC managed to push their way through the Danish qualifier. Jonas “Queenix” Dideriksen put on a great show in the final ensuring their team’s victory.

The new partnership will bring together the tournament operations of names such as Home Sweet Home, Funspark and Elisa Esports. The tournaments will operate under a shared pointing system for the teams and create a completely new international series with the locally most relevant teams for European esports fans across the continent.
Elisa Esports announces three new partnerships in order to strengthen its position in European esports field, namely with GRID, Relog Media and Funspark. The new Masters tournament tour will bring together the most interesting and fascinating esports teams across Europe, who go head-to-head and compete for a $2,7m total prize pool across 2021 and 2022 – all under the same and easy-to-follow tournament structure. Each tournament organizer (Elisa Esports, Relog Media and Funspark) will continue to provide their own individual prize pools, but now with participating in common tour and thus creating together a $2,7m CS:GO tournament tour.
The partnership with GRID will notably improve Elisa Esports’ capability in making use of the data in the played games, allowing for example a completely new way for spectators to get more insights about the played game in a live form. Furthermore, the tournament partnership with Relog Media and Funspark will significantly increase the amount of content to be available for European and Finnish esports fans and audience.
“With the extended tournament structure co-operated with Relog Media and Funspark, we wanted to provide a new way for European top teams to better their rankings and compete, even if they are not official partners with the largest commercial leagues. Our tour will attract an extraordinary combination of interesting teams in the world, which has been a long-awaited element by our viewers and fans across the Nordics and Europe. For our viewers we wanted to tell that we have listened, and acted accordingly”, says Teemu Koski, Head of Elisa Esports.
“Throughout 2020, we have put a significant effort in order to truly understand what our viewers and fans would love to see us deliver, both in terms of the content for the viewers and the professional opportunities for Finnish and Nordic esports teams. Partnering up with GRID, Relog Media and Funspark proves that we’re on the right track, and we will continue to work hard in order to serve the people who love esports”, adds Pasi Lindqvist, Senior Business Designer from Elisa.
By creating and joining a shared tournament structure through each organizers’ Masters-events, Elisa Esports plans to add a new layer to the existing Elisa Invitational tournament structure. First, Elisa Invitationals are expected to be organized quarterly with a total prize pool of $400k, which furthermore is planned to gather the winning teams of Elisa Invitationals to Elisa Masters events with a separate $250k prize pool. Similarly, the other two tournament organizers will host their Masters-events.
All of the tournaments (Elisa Invitational, Home Sweet Home & Funspark) will operate an overarching Points System which is based on GRID scoring data for the teams, which allows an easy way for teams and spectators to follow the journey throughout the annual seasons. All of the Masters events from each tournament organizer are planned to lead up to a new flagship CS:GO event called “Elisa Champion of Champions” tournament, which is currently expected to take place in the Fall 2022. Champion of Champions will attract a globally significant pool of teams, more information of which will be provided when final decisions about the event are made. More information about the point system and Elisa Champion of Champions event is to follow in coming weeks and months.
The content of Elisa Invitationals, Elisa Masters and Elisa Champion of Champions will be broadcasted on Elisa Esports’ Twitch channels in both Finnish and English. Other language broadcasters and local media partners will be shared before each event.
Next Elisa Invitational will be organized on 28th June to 3rd July 2021. This event will follow the regional and main swiss stages played throughout May and June. The Swiss stages will qualify 8 teams to Elisa Invitational Summer, whereas 4 other teams are receiving direct invites. The invited teams will be announced closer to the event. Elisa Invitational Fall and Elisa Invitational Winter will be organised later in 2021.
“We can expect nothing less than a year-long party for the fans, as the new structure brings together the most interesting teams and players across Europe, week after week”, comments Teemu Koski.
